The lonely lady lighting up the dark,

White wax dripping and the warmth that I need,

With a whisper of smoke and a minuscule spark,

You give just enough light for me to read.

Become ever less as you burn slowly down,

Your glowing wick, a golden crest,

You wear your flame like a brilliant crown,

In a white waxen gown, you are dressed.

A candle has been a companion in the night for centuries. It is used for heat, light and comfort. I wrote this short poem with the candle being an object, but for a little more warmth to the piece, I changed it to feminine.
